Spiritual Lesson from Spiderman

Last Friday my youngest son, Sean, participated in a Trike-a-thon with the preschool at Tri Cities Christian in Johnson City. Cutest thing you 've ever seen....all these kids on Trikes or bikes with training wheels all decked out with helmets! Everyone of them. On a break I snuck over to catch a peek of my sweetie the "speed demon" giving it his all. After school we loaded up the Big Wheel and headed home. All the way home Sean lovingly told me " I had a helmet but Ethan had a Spiderman Helmet"..that's nice Sean, you had a helmet. "Yeah but Ethan has a Spiderman helmet, and Spiderman elbow pads, mommy, and Spider man knee pads." "Next time you go to Walmart...I need elbow pad and knee pads, but I did have a helmet. Whew..Ethan's mom makes if hard for the rest of us to keep up. I nodded and told him we'd work on that before the next Trike a thon. Lesson learned. I couldn't help but reflect on Ephesians where it talks about "putting on the WHOLE Armor of God that we may resist the wiles of the devil" as the KJV puts it. Wiles..the devious things Satan throws our way. So many times I rely on my helmet of Salvation which is a must, but I forget that although Satan can posses me and have me, he can oppress me and slow me down in my walk with God if I'm not fully covered. Do I have the Sword of the Spirit, or the breast plate of Righteousness. Are my feet shed with the preparation of the Gospel of Peace? Do have all all those other pieces of the Armor of God on so I am ready to do battle? It's not "if I'll face battles" , It's when... Ethan has it figured out, his spider man helmet would be great if he fell on his head, but what about his elbows? They would surely take the brunt of a fall...but Ethan was prepared. Those knees were covered in the event of an untimely fall off that trike. Sean want the "full armor" for the next ride...I want the whole armour for the rest of my ride in life...and you?

Ah the lessons we learn from our kids.

I want to have the full armor on all the time, but sometimes I forget one or two pieces. Those unprotected areas are exactly where satan shoots his arrows EVERYTIME!
