I was tired today. I spent the entire weekend at the women's conference and I was exhausted. We got to 9:30 church and 11:00 Sunday school. I looked at David and asked if we could eat out one more time....I was too tired to cook and the kids have their children's choir musical at church tonight. He agreed and off we headed to I-HOP with a buy one get one coupon in hand. I enjoy breakfast any time of the day, but I'm more of a bacon and egg girl as opposed to pancakes, although I like them once in a while. I heard a cute story about two brothers....
A mother was preparing pancakes for her 5-year-old son Kevin and 3-year-old son Ryan. When the boys started arguing over who would get the first tasty pancake, she saw a great opportunity to teach them a Biblical lesson.
"Boys" she said, "if Jesus were sitting here this morning, He would say 'let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.'"
Kevin turned to his brother and said, "Ryan, today you get to be Jesus!"
Aren't we alot like Kevin at times? We sit at the table of life letting others do the serving because is might cost us something or we might have to "wait" on something we think we deserve out of life. We make our appearance at church and Sunday school, but we ignore the pleas to serve in some capacity. The flip side of that is that some folks serve in multiple areas. As Christian we are all called to serve....all are called to share his good news.
"But many who are first will be last; and the last, first." (Matthew 19:30)
I wonder what the "pancakes" are in your life and mine that trip us up when it comes to being Christlike? Scripture talks about the LOVE of money being the root of all evil, maybe it's the wrong friends, or maybe it's just simply that we are not willing to be Christ like because our pride and selfishness take over?
God's really not fooled by the fish on the back of the car, or the license plate that reveals your church, or the bumper stickers that shout out your religious cause. Nothing wrong with those, but doesn't our Christianity go beyond that? into our daily walk...if not, I say we are "flat as a pancake" in our christian walk.
I think the wait on the second pancake is worth the wait...doing things Christ's way is the only way.

Very good analogy Luann. We just sometimes lose our air and go flat.
It sounds like you had a very inspired weekend at the conference you attended. I'm glad you got alot out of it.
Oh, one thing I wanted to mention was the quote from Matt.19:30 "The first shall be last and the last, first". That is one quote that sticks in my brain. I am reminded of it so much. Many times I will step into the background rather than trying to be one of the first ones in situations. Even in the business world people will sneak around me to win whatever and give me a little shot by saying something like "beat ya!" I just tell myself the first shall be last and the last, first. If I'm going to win down here it is going to be in a way which pleases God.
very good post -cute brother story too. - but good reminder for every day life
I have been flat as a pancake before...not fun.
I hate IHOP, but my kids love it - next time they want to go I am going to call you and let you take them. K? hahahahaha (I hate pancakes and most breakfast food other than biscuits and gravy and coffee).
Thought the kids did great last night.
This is such a good post. Thank you.
