I had a "secret" date this morning. That's right. After my husband went to work and I dropped off my oldest son at school I was taken out to breakfast. We told no one! How fun and sneaky. My blond haired brown eyed date was so polite the entire time. He even paid for my breakfast! What a treat!
Ok...well, there's more to the story lest anyone panic. My date was my 3 1/2 year old named Sean. We decided to have a mommy-son date since the days are long when it's not preschool day. So, we dropped Daniel off at kindergarten and then went to Shoney's. The paying for it part wasn't exactly "correct". Sean did hand the cashier to the money and was so proud..but the money was mine to start with. $10.04 to be exact. He was so proud and told me over and over, " I paid for the breakfast, not you mommy" and I'd say " Oh , thank you Sean for taking me to breakfast." "Your welcome mommy" was his reply.
I thought about the Lord. Everything we have is "his" to start with...especially the tithe...we talked about that in a Bible study. That first 10 percent of our income was never ours to start with....it's was God's all alone . Then we have the nerve to act like we've done God a favor when we drop that 10 percent in the offering plate. I heard it said when we don't it's like embezzling money....using money that's not ours to start with. We expect God to say " oh, how wonderful, when that was his all along. It's not till we get to the "offerings" above that tithe that we've really begun to "give".
Funny the lessons you are reminded of on your "Secret Dates".
