Every year, twice a year, we make a short journey to the pediatrician in Kingsport. We live in Johnson City. I really should get a pediatrician here..we've had many good one recommended to us. But, for some reason we keep going back to the same one. When we lived in VA we drove to Kingsport for my pre-natal checkups and the I had both boys at Indian Path. I just never changed pediatricians.
Today was Sean's lucky day. We were all set for the kindergarten shots. Daniel had his the day after he turned four. Sean turn four in January, so we were sure today was the day. Sean was pleasantly surprised to learn that things have changed a little and although technically he could get them, they wanted to wait till he's five because kids now have to have 2 Chicken pox vaccines which means four shots (ouch!) and they are running low for the kids who need them this fall and Sean won't go to K-5 for a whole year...so he was safe. Two Thomas the Tank Engine stickers later we were out the door and on our way to shop a little and then find lunch. We drove around looking for something "different". I love anything Chinese, some Japanese, etc. David is NOT an oriental cuisine fan. Not finding what I wanted we stopped at McCallister's Deli only to find the line out the door. No thanks...no patient enough. So we walked around the corner to see what was there ....and there is was...Tomy Thai's! Yessireeee...my grownup taste buds were saying. We walked in and from the start I wondered if this was a good decision for a mommy and her four year old. Sean will eat more things than Daniel will. Although their was no "sign" that read "Children not welcome", it was obvious that this was not a place that catered to children. "Do you have a kids menu?" I asked. "Um , no" ( frowning face) We can deep fry some chicken like chicken nuggets..will that work? " I agreed to try it and soon we had two menus and headed around the corner. It was dark and nothing on the tables. I had to take a minute to study the menu..my first time with Thai. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this was NOT a kids kind of place. Sean scanned the restaurant and said " Hey, these people don't have kids!" He was right. Not one person had a child with them. Business men, groups of 4 or more on break from work, but not one kid. We knew for sure when the nuggets arrived and when we were asked if we wanted a dipping sauce there was not an ounce of ketchup on the premises. You just can't be kid friendly if you don't have ketchup. Sean was pleased to learn that they did have honey, so all was well. Sean said "They only have humans here, no kids!" I chuckled. I explained to him that all people were humans and kids counted too. I'm so glad that Jesus and the kingdom of heaven is oh so kid friendly! Jesus serves the ultimate "Happy Meal" ...the BREAD OF LIFE with LIVING WATER. I love this part of the WORD....
People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them,"Let the little children come to me,and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them. Mark 10:13-16

You are so right. Children just trust you because you are mom or dad. It is so wonderful. We also must have that same childlike trust towards our Father in heaven and in our belief of Jesus Christ the Savior. I'm certain that makes God feel wonderful also when He sees that quality in us. Good post Luann. You can learn so much by listening to a 4 year old. God bless him and Daniel also.
thanks Greg...Big Lessons from Little People.
Tommy Thai is NOT a place for kids - you are right. It is a place you take kids when you want them to appreciate your home cooking. The food is good for us humans though.
Sounds like a fun day with the kids. We have brought our kids to many places just like this. You made the best of it and had a great time anyway, how wonderful. Thanks for sharing. These days are precious days with your children.

I love Tomy Thai's and have taken Sarah a few times. Chase doesn't like anything 'asian'. LOL
Sarah totally appreciates it and we always split something. We go for lunch and I just never noticed if there were other kids in the place. Probably not. Oh well.......Sarah acts like a teenager anyways! LOL
So, did you enjoy the food? I like the Chicken, veges and peanuts. Also like the drunken noodles and the spring rolls are YUMMO. Of course nothing is as good as PF Changs lettuce wraps, right LuAnn?
