Not Grown Up Yet

Do you remember being little and wanting to be "big"? When I was little I thought 40 was old! Now at 41 I see that I was a misguided little child...why the 40 of today is the 30 of yesterday! ( Or so I 'm told) Yesterday the kids were playing outside riding on their Big Wheels. Things were fine..my husband had even joined them for a few minutes. Momentarily I heard this wailing ( sort of in drama mode) from Sean. He appeared at the back door wailing " Oh, Mommy, I'm not big , I can't do it! I Just can't do it! Oh, Mommy, I want to do it but I'm not Big". I remided him ( before I knew the full extent of our crisis here) that he was four, and had already declared he did not want to be called the "little" brother anymore because he was "Big" now. " Turns out he wanted to "swing" with Daniel. Daniel , and I noticed this on the playgroud at school, had figured out how to "pump" his legs when he swings therefore eliminating the need for daddy to push him. Sean, however, hasn't. Daddy had been sick since Sat. and had stayed home from work yesterday. His appearance outside was more to "watch" than participate. Hence Sean's meltdown for feeling helpless. We can draw alot of parallels with our Earthly Father to our Heavenly One, but I'm so glad he far surpasses our earthly ones. David is a wonderful husband and great dad...but earthly dad's lose steam and sometimes they just can't "push" when you need them too. Our heavenly Father never gets sick, tired, weary, or goes missing in action. When I need a "push" he's right there to give it to me. Sometimes I think I'm "Big enough" spiritually and I don't need his help. It's good to be reminded that none of us can do this life alone...oh we try, but we soon realize that we all need a "Push" from the Lord...or at least I do.

Ps. 46:1

God is our refuge and strength; and ever present help in time of trouble.
