Lessons I Learned at the House of Mouse

Nope....don't get too excited. I don't mean Disney ( That's a far off dream for my family). You know , the other house of mouse...Chuck E. Cheese! It was my first time and I survived. Sean's little classmate Emily had her birthday party there. Daniel was home with Strep Throat.....but he's been a good sport. He doesn't like pizza so he already had in mind that Chuck might not be a friend he cared to make.

Sometimes I think I think too much...ever do that? I should have been concentrating solely on my four year old, and I was , but I also learned a few things.

1. I learned that it doesn't take much to please 3 , 4, and 5 year olds. Slice of pizza, a cup of Soda, and a man in a mouse costume will work.

2. I learned that Chuck's pizza is nothing like Pizza's Huts!

3. I learned that Grandmother's in their late 50's to early 60's who accidentally get bumped into aren't as forgiving as 3 , 4, and 5 year olds...especially when they are in another birthday party and almost fall in their grandson's gift. ( Can anyone say "grow up?")

4. I learned that you can have compassion even in the midst of a "carnival-like" atmosphere. Another pre-school mom and I made a connection by discovering that she grew up in familiar territory to my husband. We discussed that David's grandparents are buried in the same cemetery that 3 of her grandparents are buried. Then, with teary eyes, she said her dad was buried there too...he died 2 years ago. I could see the pain was fresh. I can relate...I wanted to hug her up. I just said a prayer for her and moved on to happier topics.

5. I learned that only a mother would skip lunch to watch her 4 year old eat pizza and have a grand time with his friends. I learned that their are other loving parents that would do the same.

6. I learned from other parents that my little Sean is a "nice boy"...friendly to all. That makes for a proud mommy.

So it may not have been Disney but it was a nice visit and very educational.

Church was , I think, just for me this morning. I'm just sure Darryl Crouch, our associate pastor was at my school Friday. I'm almost as certain that God told him about my, er, well, let just say very impatient , frustrated attitude. I can just about bet that Darryl was pointing at "me".....I think it's one of those "God things".

So I'm off to eat my lunch..finally. I don't know what grade for teaching is in my future, but I sure hope a nap is!!!!

What you learned at Chuckie Cheese is both fabulous and hilarious! Let me tell you though, you are a better woman than I. I've been to C.C only once and have never been back since. When we went the noise was so loud I think I lost a little bit of my hearing! Could this be why the older lady seemed cranky? It makes me wonder how I looked those many years ago as I wondered around Chuckie's deaf as a door nail.

I am glad your kids had fun. That's what matters most.

Blessings,
Nancy

Good question! Everyone thought I was a little strange naming this little puppy Ecclesiastes, but he's finally grown into his name and no thinks a thing about it any more.

Let me simply refer you to the two blogs that explain his name and my "out of character" decision to get a dog. You can find it under the blogs written January 27 and 28 of this year. Enjoy. Oh by the way, I love the names of your cats! They are just fine.

Blessings,
Nancy

I like your life lessons from CEC. ;) When the preacher feels like he's pointing the finger at me, I often breathe a prayer and say, "I'm listening Lord!"

Hope your family, including you, is feeling better. After taking Andrew to the doc on Friday and telling her about my symptoms of the last two weeks, she said it sounds like I had bronchitis when I was just worn out and exhausted for 3 days last week.

P.S. I get daily emails from Proverbs 31 too and noticed when I went to Van Walton's website that you do as well when I saw your post. :)

Thank you for your kind note. I could not care for our daughter without the strength and grace of God. I know I am in the same boat as your friend in Virginia, but it breaks my heart to think of her pain. I know all too well the feeling of confinement. I fought it for many years as if I were in a straight jacket. Looking back it was simply God's way of taming my independent spirit so I could learn to fully lean on Him. Only now, nineteen years later, can I say He has truly blessed us through this trial. I wish the same for your friend!

In Him,
Nancy
