What's in a Name?

Your name is something that follows you all your life. You don't get to choose it, it's chosen for you. Probably why so many parents put so much thought into what they will name their children. My brother named me...or at least gave me my middle name. My first name is Carol...I never use it. Steve had a little friend he played with on the back street named "LuAnn" and he begged mom to name me that. I get all kinds of spellings....LuAnne, LouAnn , louanne, Luann....I have a capital "A" in my name...guess it's no big deal, but when I have things monogrammed I want that "A"
capitalized. And to all my Andy Griffith friends, Gomer Pyle's girlfriend was "LuAnn Poovey". I know, my pastor's son used to call me that "all" the time! Anne of Anne of Green Gables was obsessed that people spell her name with and "e" on the end..it was so much more alluring! (her words). I looked up my name in Japanese and it means

Your Japanese Name Is...

Michiko Inoue

Who knew?

When Daniel was born I somehow wanted him to have part of my dad's name since my dad died before he was born. Dad's name was Edd Ray Ketchie. My brother is Steven Ray, my great nephew is Tyler Ray, I have a cousin named Melissa Ray...I didn't think "Daniel Edd" flowed too well so I decided to combine Edd and Ray and came up with "EdRay", dropping the extra "d" in Edd and capitalizing the "R"....I know..that's more information than you needed. The point??? His name was to mean something, to carry on a name that was already meaningful to our family. Names are important.

I think about the Name that is above all Names... JESUS! Do a study sometime on the names of Jesus....I cry everytime I read them. I have a post where I listed all the names. Here is a list I found up with..I made "bold" some of the ones that bring me comfort...I know there are more! Many Hebrew names....

My boys are Daniel and Sean. Daniel's name is a strong name, pretty sraightforward. Sean's name gets some interesting interpretations. We get "Shane", Sean ( like Shawn)
Sean ( prounounced SEEN????) when it's really "Sean and is "Shon" like John". He's so funny...he'll tell you in a flash when you don't say it right.

"Jesus..name above all name"...he knows when we are calling his name, no matter how we say it, or which name we call him. And think of all the Hebrew names and what they mean?

What's in a name...In the name of Jesus...more than we could comprehend!

The Beginning and the End
Firstborn from the Dead
Bridegroom
Hope of Glory
and
I AM

Wow! That was an awesome list... loved everyone of them. With all the different seasons in my life... I need Him to be all of those at one time or another.

Thanks so much for sharing them with us. I think that I will print them off and put them somewhere I will see them often.

The tears are streeking down my cheeks, I love this song and I thank you for this post... See I was named Connie Louise and I was all ways called Connie, and growing up I felt cheated because my brothers and sisters had nick names off there's and I didn't... My best friend (Judy rest her soul) from high school gave me the nick name of Rad off (Corad), and I love the nick name it was given to me... She pasted away and i'm not called that anymore, but I still love it becuase someone that was important to me loved me enough to give me that name...
You are in my prayers...

Thanks for this list and the song. I have to go to a "mandatory" work meeting tomorrow from 10am-4pm and will miss church. This will make the third Sunday...I'm about to shrivel up and die here...I need to be with other believers in worship...I'm so thirsty. This post and the song really spoke to my heart and helped, yet also made the desire to lift up hands in corporate worship all the more intense. I CAN'T wait until tomorrow night!! Thanks for your heart, Luann.
